Rainer Simon is a distinguished German film director and screenwriter, recognized for his contributions to East German cinema. He studied directing at the Deutsche Hochschule für Filmkunst in Potsdam-Babelsberg from 1961 to 1964. Simon's directorial debut was the short children's film Peterle und die Weihnachtsgans Auguste, based on a story by Friedrich Wolf.
